The Invisible Handshake: Our Cookie Philosophy

We believe informed consent isn’t a legal footnote—it’s a design responsibility. This policy isn't hidden in a drawer; it's the foundation of how we build trust.

What You Need to Know

A transparent breakdown of our data practices

Essential Cookies

These are the nuts and bolts. They keep the site functional—handling your navigation state, load balancing, and basic security. Without them, the site simply won’t work. We don’t need your permission for these.

Example: vislixo_session, csrf_token

Analytics & Performance

We use these to measure what’s working. Not for ads, but to improve our design and writing. Which portfolio piece gets the most interest? Which service page has the longest read time? This helps us craft better work.

Provider: Google Analytics 4 (anonymized IP)

Your Preferences

When you consent to analytics, we store that decision. If you return, we remember your choice so you’re not asked repeatedly. This cookie is lightweight and expires after 1 year.

Purpose: vislixo_consent_analytics

A Real-World Application

How our approach plays out in a typical visit

Beat 1

A visitor lands on the Work page. Essential cookies activate to manage their session and load the portfolio grid. They browse without interruption.

Beat 2

They click into a case study. We log an anonymized event: “User engaged with Case Study X.” No personal data is linked to this action. It’s purely quantitative.

Beat 3

They return a week later. The consent cookie ensures they’re not prompted again. If they’d rejected analytics, their browsing remains completely private.

Method Note

Evaluation Criteria

We evaluate our cookie policy not on legal compliance alone, but on cognitive load. Does a visitor understand what’s happening? Is the control clear and immediate? Our test: a typical user should be able to find and act on the consent banner in under 10 seconds without reading the policy.

The technical risk is minimal: we use a lightweight, server-side managed consent system that blocks analytics scripts until explicit approval. The limit is frequency—we avoid re-prompting users who have already made a choice. Our view would change if new research showed that even anonymized data collection eroded trust at a measurable rate.

Core Assumptions

  • Visitors prioritize site functionality over granular tracking controls.
  • Performance metrics (e.g., page load) are a valid proxy for user experience.
  • Transparency builds more trust than obfuscation, even if the data collected is minimal.

Key Constraints

  • GDPR and ePrivacy Directive compliance is non-negotiable.
  • Site performance must remain under 2s; bulky consent scripts are rejected.
  • No third-party data sharing for advertising or retargeting purposes.

What Would Change Our View?

Direct feedback from our clients indicating that even our current, minimal analytics setup creates friction. Or, a shift in the industry toward “zero-cookie” architectures that achieve similar measurement goals without client-side scripts. Our policy is a living document, not a static decree.

Still have questions?

If this policy doesn’t cover your specific concern, our studio is open to direct conversation. We believe policy should be a dialogue, not a monologue.
